Compliance is an obligation and an opportunity

Law No. 6698, in force since 7 April 2016, filled an important gap in Turkish legislation and mobilised a wide range of sectors, notably e-commerce, sales, marketing, manufacturing, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Regulations developed in parallel with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) are moving faster than expected; for companies doing business with the EU or operating across borders, a compliance programme brings opportunities as well as risks.

In today’s business environment, where technology has disproportionately increased access to data, companies need to comply quickly to avoid serious sanctions. Beyond legal obligations, building a data protection infrastructure and data policies has become unavoidable.

Because the law takes a horizontal rather than vertical regulatory approach, compliance consultancy requires a multidisciplinary legal perspective. Analysing processes and activities from the standpoint of the Turkish Commercial Code, Labour Law and occupational health and safety legislation is essential.

The law’s real aim is to build a culture of personal data protection within organisations. That is why we combine legal advice with interactive work such as awareness training, so that the company and its staff fully understand the purpose of the law. Only then can data processing policies and day-to-day operations be truly aligned.
