Key findings
- The index is based on 10 criteria (higher education, labour force participation, pay gap, management, boards, parliament, GMAT, childcare costs, maternity and paternity leave); Türkiye ranked 27th of 29 in the past two years.
- Labour force participation is the criterion where Türkiye lags most: women’s participation is 40 points below men’s.
- Women hold only 15% of management positions, half the OECD average.
- 45% of graduate management test takers are women; women aspire to management almost as much as men.
- Türkiye does better than the OECD average on the pay gap (7%).
- Maternity leave is a third of the OECD average, and childcare costs more than families can afford.
- Women executives cite unequal employment, the pay gap and prejudice around pregnancy and flexible working as the main barriers.
